Alcatel-Lucent today unveiled a new converged architecture for its next generation communications platforms at its Dynamic Enterprise Tour event in Paris. Building on its longstanding commitment to open standards and platforms, the new architecture converges the advanced capabilities of Alcatel-Lucent and Genesys into a state-of-the-art "SIP-to-the-core" platform approach for its enterprise applications, including unified communications, collaboration and customer service. The UK leg of the Tour, on October 12th, saw the launch of the new OmniSwitch 10k – the 10 Gigabit Ethernet enterprise switch.
Enterprises benefit from an open, evolutionary migration to next generation SIP-based communication platforms that:
Alcatel-Lucent has a history of innovation in SIP beginning in 2000 with the introduction of SIP trunking to its Alcatel-Lucent OmniPCX platform, followed by the release of Genesys SIP server and the addition of SIP device support to the OmniPCX. Additionally, the new architecture leverages Alcatel-Lucent’s carrier grade Multimedia Resource Function for multi-party communications. A cornerstone of Alcatel-Lucent’s next generation multimedia communications platforms is the ability to deliver advanced communication services and open applications independent of the device, delivering a consistent conversation in context.
To achieve this, the architecture brings together the following 4 key components:
"Our commitment to open systems is stronger than ever," said Paul Segre, President, Applications, Alcatel-Lucent. "As enterprises start to realise the powerful benefits of communications-enabled applications, we are putting SIP at the core of our enterprise platform strategy to drive this innovation across the enterprise."
The Dynamic Enterprise Tour events in the UK and Paris attracted more than 1000 attendees, including customers, sponsors and business partners, who gathered to discuss and experience the latest applications and communications solutions for enterprises.
Alcatel-Lucent CEO Ben Verwaayen kicked off the Paris event, which featured keynote presentations from Tom Burns, President of Enterprise & Strategic Industries, and innovative Alcatel-Lucent customers, including Abilene Christian University and Accor Hotels.
Mark Turner, VP of Northern Europe, hosted the UK event, with keynote presentations on strategy and products led by Tom Eggemeier, Senior VP and General Manager for EMEA Alcatel-Lucent and Eric Penisson, General Manager for Enterprise Applications.
The Dynamic Enterprise Tour has put Alcatel-Lucent’s latest innovations on display, including the groundbreaking smart desk phone, called My IC Phone, video conferencing and collaboration solutions, unified communications for mobile devices, as well unique vertical and industry offerings, such as hotel applications, smart grids for utilities, and travel and transportation solutions.
